4 Everyday Appliance Problems And How To Troubleshoot Them
Lorenzo F.

It’s no fun having a broken or malfunctioning appliance. Unfortunately, this goes hand in hand with home ownership. However, there’s good news. Whether it’s a refrigerator that won’t stop running or a leaky garbage disposal, there may be inexpensive, relatively simple ways to fix your faulty appliances.

To give you some valuable knowledge about tackling appliance issues, our experts at Fix Appliance Repair would like to take a moment to discuss 4 common household appliance problems and how you can correct them:

1. Your ice maker isn’t working

To restore your ice maker to full functionality, your first step should be to check the bale lever (it looks like a hanger) to ensure that it is pointing downward. Still no ice? There could be a clog in the water valve. To find out, put one finger into the mold just above the ice container; if there aren’t any ice cubes to be found, seek professional assistance.

2. Your dryer takes eons to get clothes dry

There are two potential causes of this issue: First, the problem may be stemming from a lint buildup in the dryer. To find out if this is the case, inspect the lint screen and its slot as well as the vent hose for signs of blockage, vacuum them out if necessary. If this doesn’t solve the problem, then it’s time to check the dryer vent outside your home. Clearing out debris such as dead leaves and branches should take care of the issue.

3. Your washer sounds like a rocket ready to take off when it reaches the spin cycle

This is a telltale sign that your washer isn’t balanced and/or properly supported. To remedy the problem, all you must do is put a 3/4-inch-thick slab of plywood under the washer and dryer and screw it to the joists in the floor. You may also need a few shims to make the surface completely level. If you’re unsure whether you can handle this job alone, simply call our appliance repair specialists.

4. Your dishwasher isn’t doing its job

If your dishes aren’t getting clean, try putting fewer items in the dishwasher per load and see if that solves the issue. No luck? Remove the racks and look for debris caught in the float, which is the disk located on the bottom of the dishwasher. If you see any food stuck there, dislodge it and try again. Still not working correctly after all this effort? You may have a broken or damaged dishwasher arm, which can easily be replaced.

Hopefully you’ll be able to solve some of your appliance dilemmas by following our 4 suggestions!
